Especially with growing restrictions on generators, the use of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems in buildings to support life safety systems is becoming increasingly important.

In the event of a power outage, a UPS system provides a reliable power source to critical building systems such as evacuation lifts and emergency lighting plus those for smoke extraction and fire suppression, security and access, building management, alarms and controls. In this presentation, we will discuss the various standards, regulations, and guidelines involved in the installation and maintenance of such UPS systems, how the type of load may affect the system and additional considerations such as fault clearance.
